It's like water off a duck's back!
Hi All, I'm curious to find out more about the diet of one of my favourite birds, Bohemian Waxwing. Back in February I saw one bird food passing to another and it looked like green plant matter although there were plenty of berries around.

I've seen them fly-catching on sunny days and nipping the buds from willow trees as well as devouring a wide variety of berries. What do they feed on when they're on their breeding grounds & what do they feed their young? What else do they eat?

Hi - my 2 cents; saw a small group (c.7ish) land in a stunted willow bush about 2-3 feet high in an extensive montane snowfield in northern Norway close to the north coast in early June. They appeared to swallow the willow catkins whole before moving on.
Saw some of the ones in Nottingham when the Cedar Waxwing was around, feeding on buds on the lime trees along the roadsides near the garage where the Cedar had been showing.
Cheers.
PS Yes have seen them flycatching in the UK of course, in the Spring.
