Farne Island birding (1 Viewer)

Two days ago we visited the Farne Islands and the Bempton Cliffs. For us it was the first time to see the real big seabird colonies. Especially the Puffins were great to sea. This is a very difficult species in the Netherlands (where we come from). The last twitchable bird was seen at least 15 years ago (as far as I know). Every autumn and winter a few birds are seen along the coast (only fly-by). During our stay on one of the islands we were able to see a late Black tern.

greetings,

Hi Andre,

On behalf of all the Moderators and Admin Staff, let me wish you a warm WELCOME to BirdForum.

Just got back from a trip to the Farnes myself, a couple of weekends ago... brilliant... glad you enjoyed it too. :t:

Have heard recently that due to bad weather the Puffins have suffered due to flooding of the burrows, however nearby at Couqet island early reports are that Roseate Tern numbers could be up.

Cuddy.
