Locked file removal (1 Viewer)

Hi All, my E-drive used to be main drive in a previous computer. Cleaning it up a little today, I deleted most of the Windows directory (WinXP was installed on that machine). There are two files I cannot remove because they are locked (read only cannot be removed). These are in a macromed/flash subfolder and the files are named flash10e.ocx and flashutil10e.exe.

I have malwarebytes installed on this PC and under other tools it lists FileASSASSIN as a tool for this kind of situation. Is that something I should download, is there a better option to handle this, or another program I should use? I do not have too much space, so I would like to not add too much in the form of programs.

Hi Niels, if it's any consolation, I always have the same problem with those files - the bad news is that I can't remember how I remove them (I'm usually flying on autopilot ;) ). Perhaps you can shift them from Safe Mode, or by taking Ownership first.

Hi Niels,
Move on Boot does just what the name says.
It's a useful small free (all the good things :) ) bit of kit to have handy to do just what you want.

Run cCleaner over you HD afterwards, it'll pick up some more odds and sods that are left.

Watch for either program asking to install other proggys at the set up stage.
But that's normal for any free softy you install these days.
Happy New Year

Good point Andrew !!!
I can't see it working on a secondary drive either.
My brain wasn't in gear properly.
That's my excuse anyway.
:)

I have now tried both FileASSASSIN and moveonboot. Neither seems to be able to touch these two particular files.

I have comodo firewall and avast antivirus installed and this is a WinXP PC, if that makes any difference.

I am not sure which functionality in Ccleaner to run for this specific issue except the regular "cleaning"

Hi Niels,
I´m sure not a software - guru but I wonder why you want to remove those files?
Both are required for the correct running of Adobe programs (Shockwave Flash respectively Flash Player Helper).

Roman,
because they belong to an old version that is no longer in use (I have a current installation on the C-drive, these old files are on an older disk that now is only used for backup). I simply wanted to free up some space.

I am traveling at the moment, but still contemplating if it is worth it to go through getting a Linux boot disk to get rid of these ;)

There should be an easier way.

Hi Niels

my two pennyworth. Why not...

A: Copy any wanted files onto another drive, then reformat the E drive
B: Ignore them
