Hi All,

While sitting in the back yard, A flash of yellow caught my eye from above. About 50 yards off I saw a bird darting around that was not typical of the area.

At first I thought it was a returning goldfinch but the correct ID has been confirmed.

Scarlet tanagers are rare in these parts. Thought it might be a western tanager but the beak and plumage is not quite right for that.

Purchased the 400D last week and just decided on a lens (canon 70-300 is usm) a couple of days ago.

Just the kind of moment I hoped to catch (see gallery).

Thank you all for for your considered opinions.
