Well I recently was in Panama for a week and had just got a flash for my setup in hopes of helping to get low light shots. I also purchased the better beamer as well. Unfortunately I did not have time to get to know the flash before I went down and ended up having to try and learn on a once in a life time trip (I know dumb, I can hear Gordan Ramsey now screaming "You Donkey!").
Anyway at first I went with default settings which was terrible, every animal and bird had devil eyes and was washed out. I then learned that there is a high speed setting on the flash which you can use with TV mode and it will give you the high 1/1000th shutter speed and above without washing out the subject. This sort of worked. Is this what everyone else uses?
The other settings are as follows:
ETTL, M mode, Zoom 50mm, Flash exposure compensation -1/3
Thanks.
