Request for help. We have noted a female Tufted Duck with a blue nasal saddle on our local reserve but up to now have been unable to contact whoever put it on. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Photo attached. Stuart

It's probably French. I've had a few over the years here in Surrey and they all originated from the same scheme in France. I tried to look up the site but my virus protection warned me off! Good luck.

The saddle was put on the bird in France on 5.11.13, this is the first time that the bird has been reported. Info supplied from the contact given by Steve.

Thanks will follow these leads up - cannot believe that a better system cannot be put in place

Just noticed this post - have a look at nasalsaddles at www.pt-ducks.com and you can conclude that this system is the best and safer visual marker efficient on ducks!

Seems cruel the first time you see it but then you must rationalize that is the best solution with ducks...

Many thanks For the link David. I do understand how nasal saddles are efficient, of course none of us will ever now if the the initial discomfort experienced does go away. I do respect the need for the science and hope that the welfare of the birds is taken into account when decisions are made about things like the numbers that are required to be saddled.
