Anybody have contacts of good bird-guides for northwest Venezuela?

He's probably the safest bet as he is a long-established guide for many of the big tour groups.
There are probably more and cheaper, it really depends on what you are after.

Recently returned from a 2 week trip in N W Venezuela. We stayed at Casa Maria (google ''bugparadise' ) and it was excellent. The owner can help with all sorts of logistics
