TREE WORK at the MOORS

The work has now finished, for the time being. It will be completed in November at the Moors and Flashes. (details closer to the date).
The work was done for several reasons:
1. The neighbouring farmer was concerned about branches falling into his field.
To prevent him from damaging the trees, we employed contractors to coppice and pollard them in an environmentally manner, for the future benefit of the surrounding wildlife and the long term health of the trees.
2. The trees along the Salwarp are close to the power lines with the obvious potential dangers. This was witnessed just a couple of years ago, when one of our trees severed the power cables. The power company then took action to prevent this from happening again, to the detriment of the immediate habitat. We are thus carrying out preventative maintenance, by judiciously pruning, pollarding and coppicing the trees at risk.
The main point of this work is the long term health of the trees, no trees are killed and all will grow back and benefit wildlife and the longevity of the trees will be extended.

JTB reports an outstanding roost at the Flashes tonight -3500 BH Gulls and 1400 large gulls including a Yellow-legged and presumed adult BALTIC GULL (seen earlier this evening at Grimley). Hopefully there will be some photos later of its time at Grimley; a possible adult Baltic Gull was also reported from last night's roost at Bartley Res.
