Sorry, I've only just seen your post as I don't update it very often, I hope you found somewhere in the end.

I've checked the trees along kempton avenue a couple of times in the past week or so but today I had a nice surprise of a flock of 35+ on the corner of kempton avenue and sandown drive, I didn't stay too long as it was raining but here are a couple of poor pics.

great white egret after one was at brockhall gps last weekend I presume it's the same bird, it was showing on the main pit and the small fishing pool by the side of the path.

Hi Espen,

My word, you have been ploughing a lonely furrow in this thread for some time! I certainly take my hat off to you for persistance!

I have recently moved to Hereford and have enjoyed looking through your lists, and will continue to look at your thread and maybe add a few of my own in due course.

I will just point out however that I am a relative novice by way of comparison, so don't expect a conversation on an equal footing.

I'll post again in due course.

Yes, nice drake, still there today per RBA (apparently also a small canada goose although there was one there last winter I think- presumably an escapee), here's a record shot from last sunday:

Well done for seeing the Lesser Scaup, its been showing very well this weekend.

One thing that jumps out however is the random numbers on the rest of your counts. Accurate counting is a good way of checking through all the birds present and quite often the way the more unusual ducks, waders and waterfowl are discovered.

The Great Crested Grebes have only just got back to double figures this calendar year and Pochard have peaked at 23 this winter (very low), your counts on both seem quite high.

On the other hand the Shoveler count for instance is up to 74 this weekend, high 60s when you did your count, which is a county record.

Don't look at this post as a criticism, keep getting out there, but take your time to look through and record, you never know what you might find,:t:

Usually I look through the flocks of duck and then take an average for the number as my visits are often quite short so I have to try and get around as much as I can, but I'll bear this in mind! :t:

There were 76 Shoveler (counted 3 times) on the first pit on the right as you walk in from the A49 layby on Monday (25/3).

Thanks Brian, it is a strange event for the Shovelers this winter and I'm not sure if other counties are seeing unusually high numbers. To put it into context, the previous best county record was about 32 IIRC. Wigeon, Teal and Gadwall numbers have been high but not record breaking but nothing else has been unusually high.

Maybe there is just something in the new workings that's particularly tasty to them.
