Just realised that something has enlarged the entrance to one of my blue tit boxes from about 1" (26mm) to about 2" (51mm) in the last 3 weeks. Took some determination as it's 12mm ply. Any ideas what might have done it?
 
Maybe, but I think I might have heard it. Though a big box for a tit, probably a bit small for a woodpecker.

they will break into nest boxes to get food (eat eggs or young) but it seems a strange time of year to try it.

Before Christmas I did see a tit investigate it. Didn't check if it was nesting. Definitely strange things are happening this year.
