Sleeping Goldfinch (1 Viewer)

I was surprised yesterday to see a sleeping Goldfinch on my Nijer seed hanger, wondered have other BF members seen a sleeping bird like this before. The weather is now hot & sunny & could it have just been enjoying the warmth. I have attached three photos & you can clearly see it has it's eyes closed. The last one shows it with eyes open when discovering I was close by, it then flew off.

This doesn't sound like good news, although I hope someone will contradict me. Birds falling asleep in the open and at feeders are often sick birds. Make sure all your feeders are well cleaned so that disease can't pass from one bird to another - though to be fair, in your photo, your feeder does look very clean.

sorry but if the bird is definately sick there is only one option, its curtains for the poor fella. Expediting its passing would not be a bad or wrong thing.
