On sat 14/02 a group of us set off from Ayrshire.First stop was a wood where capers were once around - no joy,but tits & goldcrest were singing merrily.Pinkfeet flew over in small skeins.
On to Scone Palace Perth for hawfinch. After tits, jay & greenfinch we soon found nine hawfinch nr the palace gates. That was one out of our target spp.
Next was Glenshee which was like a summers day with almost no snow.Displaying peregrines, raven, plenty red grouse, numerous mountain hare and hundreds of red deer but although heard we couldn't connect with ptarmigan.
Moved on to Lindores loch for male smew with expected other loch spp.
Got the red crested pochard at kinclonquahar loch (spelling?), what a cracker of a bird.
By the time we got to the park nr ruddons point we only had c.20 mins to scan for the surf scoter.Failed to connect but tide was out and scoter flocks well out to sea.Managed a g.n. diver along with much as Andrew reported in his recent thread apart from the "queen"
Plenty of geese spp around the country along with roadside raptors. The first minibus occupants also managed barn and tawny owls before picking up me.
All in all we had a great day with excellent weather.Don't have a tally at the moment.
