Anyone know the name of this bird? (1 Viewer)

Some friends saw this bird in their back yard here in Las Vegas. We would like to know the name of it. Someone has mentionned blue heron but I thought blue herons are water birds and Las Vegas is not exactly the water place.
Thank you for your help.

Hi cztem and welcome to Bird Forum from all the Moderators and Admin. Staff.
Your friends were nearly right, this is actually a Black-crowned Night Heron.

I have seen plenty of Night Herons out and about and hunting during the day so it is not unusual at lease in what I have seen.
