Had a trip to Saltholme and surrounding area myself today. Started at North Gare & ZW Road and was disappointed to see absolutely notthing but very distant gulls :eek!:

Dropped into Saltholme and decided to head straight to Wildlife Watchpoint and stay put due to weather; Nothing out of the ordinary, Pochard, Gadwall, Chiffchaff, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Reed Bunting, Mallards, BH Gulls, Teal Coot Blue Tits & Great Tits. Due to lack of birds in general i decided to try and photograph in flight shots at the feeding station...

Finished at Bus Stop Hide where i met IanF, didn't even bother getting camera out of bag, just had a good natter with Ian :t:

Pictures from Wildlife Watchpoint.

It as good to meet up with Ray and Derek down at Saline Lagoon today not to mention seeing so many Avocets altogother on one pool. At least two of them have metal rings though no details viewable. It was a little too windy to venture any further to see if there were any on the other pools as well.

Seaton Common - I fell lucky with the Glaucous Gull dropping in just as I was leaving. It gave some great views in flight as it fought against the strong headwinds as it headed back over towards the tip.

Still getting Bramblings in the garden with five present this morning.

I'm hoping to go up to Bollihope looking for Ring Ouzels later this week - any recommendations as to which part I should go to or are they quite wide-ranging in the area?

I was up that way on sunday i saw sand martins a good few pied wagtails and a kestrel but no ring ouzel this was at the eastern end of Bollihope near the caravan park. I'ts the 1st time i've been for a walk at this end and i'ts very popular with dog walkers etc. I tend to go to the west on the B6278 there's a few old quarrys there and had them last year.

A couple were reported there last weekend though I've not been so far this year. Really they're just starting to arrive back now and are often thin on the ground at the best of times and well spread out. I usually park at the bridge in the bottom of the valley and check every quarry with binoculars/scope. They're often perched along the tops and sides of the cliffs and on the fence lines above the quarries. Also they favour steep grassy slopes and the grassy valley floors. If it's calm enough then listen for the calls as they're quite distinctive.

Rainton Meadows this morning - 3 singing Willow Warblers, pleanty of Chifchaffs, female Pintail, 1 White Wagtail still - in front of hide, 15 Teal, 3 Wigeon and 4 Gadwall, 1 Great Crested Grebe and c 15 Sand Martins.

Visit yesterday evening produced the usual plus 21 Goosander and 11 Curlew roosting on main lake and 2 Redshank. A few Martins but all Sand!!
