Hi,

I happen to know the kind of tripod from your 2nd and 3rd link and would not recommend them for a full size scope - too shaky, I tried. Also the ballhead is not really great for a scope, a fluid head is preferred.

I have a MVH500AH head on some old Velbon 3 piece carbon legs (close to the GEO N353 http://velbon.de/geo/174/velbon-geo-n535d-a-ohne-kopf?c=5) which give a nice and stable mount. This makes for an easy 5 kg backpack with scope on top including my scopac, the guide, 2nd EP, water and some munchies.

Hi,

I paid 90€ for those legs with a not so great 3way head used on ebay... and maybe 50 quid for the head in the classifieds here - but obviously this depends on some patience and luck.

This one is very close to what I have - mine has twist locks though...

In general, 3 leg sections is preferable to 4 - less locks equals more stability and you don't have the lowest section which is usually made from quite thin tubes... plus it should be high enough to comfortably use the scope with the column down or mostly so. An extended column makes things quite wobbly in most cases.
