Digital 'crop' sensor + macro lens (1 Viewer)

I've finally gone digital... just bought a Canon 400D (XTi rebel for US readers). What I'm wondering is what effect the crop sensor will have when used with my 90mm macro. I realise the focal length will increase to 144mm but will the closest focusing distance change or will I now get greater than 1:1 macro?

Macro lenses are the proof that crop sensors are exactly that, and do not actually increase a lens's focal length.

Your field of view will be that of a 144mm lens, but this is purely due to cropping. The closest focussing distance will not change and you will still have 1:1 macro, just covering a smaller area.

With the pixel density of the 400D you should get some absolutely stunning detail in your shots!

I'll put it on tomorrow and take a few shots. If any look good I'll up load them and post a link. Thanks for the quick answer.
