What is it??? (1 Viewer)

1) Erhm? A White-bellied Ani????
2) Common Ground-dove.
3) Crimson-crested Woodpecker (although I'm not completely certain how I could rule out Lineated from that photo).

#1. White-bellied Ani? ;)

#2. Correct.

#3. Not a Crimson-crested, but you know what it is now, don't you. ;)

White-bellied... erhm, looking again I realize that what I thought was a pale belly actually are the iridescent wings! So, it's still an Ani (probably Greater), but no white belly!

must be lineated!

Yes, it's a Lineated Woodpecker.

Here's another set of pictures. Some of these should be HARD!

3=wedge-billed woodcreeper

ps, i only know neotropic birds if they're found in belize, as it's the only field guide i own

Edit; don't think it is wedge-billed actually, probably one of the non-belizean woodcreepers, related to tawny-winged??

It is not the Wedge-billed or the Tawny-winged. Keep trying!

Here's a list of Woodcreepers found in Guyana, that should make it a bit easier:

Plain-brown Woodcreeper (Dendrocincla fuliginosa).
White-chinned Woodcreeper (Dendrocincla merula).
Long-tailed Woodcreeper (Deconychura longicauda).
Spot-throated Woodcreeper (Deconychura stictolaema).
Olivaceous Woodcreeper (Sittasomus griseicapillus).
Wedge-billed Woodcreeper (Glyphorynchus spirurus).
Cinnamon-throated Woodcreeper (Dendrexetastes rufigula).
Red-billed Woodcreeper (Hylexetastes perrotii).
Strong-billed Woodcreeper (Xiphocolaptes promeropirhynchus).
Amazonian Barred-Woodcreeper (Dendrocolaptes certhia).
Black-banded Woodcreeper (Dendrocolaptes picumnus).
Striped Woodcreeper (Xiphorhynchus obsoletus).
Buff-throated Woodcreeper (Xiphorhynchus guttatus).
Chestnut-rumped Woodcreeper (Xiphorhynchus pardalotus).
Cocoa Woodcreeper (Xiphorhynchus susurrans).
Straight-billed Woodcreeper (Dendroplex picus).
Streak-headed Woodcreeper (Lepidocolaptes souleyetii).
Lineated Woodcreeper (Lepidocolaptes albolineatus).
Curve-billed Scythebill (Campylorhamphus procurvoides).

No guarantees that the above list is complete, but the species involved is on it. I'm sure there must be people here on BF who are able to have a guess now as Chris's photo is fairly good.

Sorry, obviously I didn't take a good enough look at your last comment before posting mine so please disregard it. So instead, maybe a green barbet or rufous woodpecker?

Green Barbet is an African species and Rufous Woodpecker is an Asian.

If you ever see a Woodcreeper with a pale, straight (or even slighly upward curved) bill there really only is one possibility unless you're in an area where you have to deal with Zimmer's. Anyway, James Lowther get a point for the Woodcreeper :t:
