Chukar - and baby Mourning Dove - Mississauga, ON, Canada (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone. This morning at Lake Aquitaine (NW Mississauga):

9am - Finally! An extremely hungry baby Mourning Dove being fed by it's mom in a tiny nest that I've been watching for weeks!

10:30am - I almost fainted from shock when a very tame Chukar walked right up to me! My first time ever sighting one of these beautiful birds - apparently most likely an escapee from local farm in Milton or Oakville? I hope he or she is going to be OK - walking around on the paved trail, pecking at dandelions.

A slightly odd place for one (I know it well - work about 1 km away from there!), they're more of a bird of farm country, as you say. But yes, they're a fairly common escape in Southern Ontario. Who knows - nowadays, people might be keeping them in coops in their back yards!
