just returned from panama,stayed at the canopy tower,didn't see lots of snakes,just a green vine snake,and a young US birder had close call with a young FER DE LANCE (bothrops asper) a chilling but beautiful creature,will posta pic when sorted photos out.

I remember when we were in Peru we wore wellingtons and carried a snake bite extractor kit at all times... walking thru the forest in the day was scary but at night i was genuinely quite scared as we were well out of range of medical attention
