For all of the above interested in this rare bird: I just visited the place with Jon King ( http://calyptura.com/ ) and we saw the birds!... I got to see 2 individuals and Jon one.. VERY VERY close views as Jon just posted in his twitter: ( https://twitter.com/worldbirding )

13 May After 9+ hours over two days, spectacular success with HOODED ANTPITTA, twice watched at only 6m, in Cordillera Central

We did not get any sound recording unfortunately although the first bird called 4 times very very strong just behind us... next time I guess..

saludos,
Diego.

Good work - why do all the recent sightings seem to be in the northern summer, ie June-July? Do you think this species has a short calling period? I hope to see it one day but a winter trip doesn't seem to eb the answer!

cheers, alan

indeed Alan.. it does have a very short active calling period and I have found it is -at least in the localities where I see it- April & May - after that is very unreliable that you will hear it or it will respond to playback...
saludos
Diego.
