Look out for the new 80mm Pentax spotting scope.
Not much about it yet. 2, ed elements in its 5, lens objective, porro prism,2,speed focuser, etc, etc.
suppressor.

Annoyingly, the weight specs on the site are given with the stay-on case (2400 g, or abt. 5.3 lb), making it impossible to compare exactly with the weight specs for other spotting scopes...

Obviously the proof will be in the optical performance but....

...I am sort of heading in the direction of the previous posters. This would have been great if it were introduced 5 years ago but now.....?

Body style looks similar overall to Kowa, Zen Ray, etc...

If the scope has better optics than the PF series, makes sense to upgrade...And even if it doesn,t ,It´s just a change for them,The old scopes will be discontinued,New ones will create some interest in the market..Pentax belongs now to Hoya Corp. They do have the Glass!!!!..What surprises me if that Pentax ,with their amazing tradition in eyepiece crafting, came out with an 8-24X zoom with 43º-63º ...Thats Boring !..specially because if they would produce a Wide angle astronomy zoom with the XW tradition, they will sell it ..specially if is made in China and "less expensive"....

use a calulator.

most of the known world uses metric system these days.

I would have to disagree on pentax`s def of light!....... light (2.400 g) magnesium alloy body .....compared to a ton of feathers it is quite light tho .....

Wood. You miss the point entirely.

SEOW was referring to the fact that they don't list the weight of the scope by itself. We can't use a calculator to get the weight of the scope if we don't know the weight of the cover. No way to compare apples-to-apples.

No one is complaining about the unit of weight being listed in grams. We understand the rest of the world chooses to defy logic ;)

An average cordura stay-on cover for an 80mm class scope weighs about 200g. If that holds for the Pentax case, their "light" 80mm scope with eyepiece would weigh almost exactly the same as the all-rubber-covered Swarovski 30-72x/95 ATX, both without a case.
