Wasn't sure where to put this question (you'll understand why when you view the image). This was on our patio yesterday morning. 2.5" long and 1" diameter at it's widest point. The chalky deposits at one end made me think it was from a bird. Any ideas?

Yep... my first thought is a goose or large duck. Could also potentially be from a large fowl chicken or other domestic poultry that has been free range feeding.

There isn't enough veg matter for a goose imo, although it's definately a bird. I'd go for a cock pheasant. It's maybe been dozing there and dropping several dollops in one spot over a period of time.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Pheasant does seem the most likely, particularly as I hear them daily in the woods just beyond the end of my garden. Never seen one actually in the garden yet, though this does seem to be evidence that they may be coming and sitting on the patio.
