Alright, well I am pretty new to birding. After a short stint as a child with a pair of fisher price binos, I took a 25 year hiatus... but this year for Christmas my brother got everyone a birding journal and challenged us all to a 'Big Year.' The catch is, every bird must be photographed!! I will be cataloging my journey right here for anyone interested.

January 1st:

I woke up in the morning ready to go! Unfortunately, although I had a Canon SX50 on order, it was still in the mail! My best equipment was a 10x optical 2MP camcorder :(

Off to the neighborhood I went with the camcorder, binos, and my trusty radio flier wagon ( two toddlers in tow ;) )

It wasn't much, but we got three ID's!

1) Bluejay

2) Red-bellied Woodpecker

Later that day, my lovely wife took me an the kids to Jetty Park. This was a bit more productive, and the camcorder actually got what I considered to be a couple good shots.

Fred

Nice pics. I think 'American Crow' (5) is Boat-tailed Grackle, 'Sandwich Tern' (28) is Forster's Tern and 'Little Green Heron' (52) is Tricolored Heron.

I'd never heard the name Bluebill before.

All the best
