Hi,

I will be in Moldova from time to time and would love to get out sometimes to see birds there.
So I'd appreciate to get some information on where are good sites to go birding in Moldova.
(I had a look at the blog linked in the only other post on Moldova, sorry for not having been able to get out some info on sites there...)

Thanks! Florian

Thanks Christian, that would be great!

I'd also be interested in contacts to birders in Chisinau, if there are any...

I've been out birding now in Moldova and really liked it. The south is good, close to the Danube delta and great during migration. Best is Beleu lake, also the Lakes of Taraclia and Congaz are good. All can be visited in a day trip from Chisinau, but better in 2 days. I marked the lakes in a google map here.

Syrian woodpecker is easy in the gardens in the villages anywhere.

Hey Vlad, great to have your reply, I felt pretty lonely here in this thread ;)

Thanks a lot for the info on lake Comrat, I'll certainly have a look there next time!

You often go to Moldova?

Cheers, Florian

I go to Moldova a few times a year, except the hard winter, as my in laws live there. We bird a lot around the town of Cimislia, 40 km north of Comrat Lake. The ponds around this small town may not seem like much but when they start to dry out in late summer, they become real migrant traps.
