Camera nestbox. (1 Viewer)

At present I have blue tit roosting in one of my camera nest boxes overnight. I have already cleaned out the accumulating bird droppings. I assume I will need to keep doing this. I'm hoping the blue tit will nest there come spring, but it's not a given. Will the blue tit build a nest if the bird droppings aren't cleared out?

Yes they will. I have blue tit roosting in my camera box, as last year. I clean out the old nest at the end of September and wash the box with boiling water to kill any parasite eggs, then just leave them to it. The breeding pair sometime remove the old droppings and other bits they don't like then build on top, sometimes they just bring in new nest material.

The fact you have a roosting bird I'd say is a good sign that a pair will nest.

Good luck
Mick
