Tuesday March 22, 2005:
Large rafts of seabirds are still being seen on the water from Rathtrevor Provincial Park north to Qualicum Bay.
EVENING GROSBEAKS and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH are coming to feeders in the Cathers Lake area of Nanaimo.
A TOWNSENDS WARBLER, VARIED THRUSH and RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS are coming to feeders in the 1100 block of Stymie close in the Eaglecreast area of Qualicum Beach.
Over 100 HARLEQUIN DUCKS were spotted at Columbia Beach.
A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was spotted at suet feeders behind Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
Sunday March 20:
Over twelve EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen behind the Pryde Vista Golf Course in Nanaimo.
March 20, 2005, Sunday Bird Walk went to Buttertubs Marsh and included twelve birders.
We saw 29 species with a RUDDY DUCK , close looks at a young RED-TAILED HAWK being mobbed by NORTHWESTERN CROWS and many VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS being the highlights.
The Backyard Wildbird and Nature Store presents Sunday morning bird walks. We meet at the store located at 6404 Metral Drive at 9:00 a.m. and go to a different birding location each week for about 2 or 3 hours. Everyone is welcome.
Saturday March 19:
An AMERICAN GOLDFINCH was seen along Venlaw Road in Nanaimo.
Six SWALLOWS were seen flying above Hamilton Marsh In Qualicum Beach.
An ALBINO AMERICAN ROBIN was seen in with a flock of AMERICAN ROBINS in Cedar.
Friday March 18:
Fifteen to twenty RED CROSSBILLS were seen at feeders in the 1300 block of Ivor Road in Cedar.
Thursday March 17:
A CALIFORNIA QUAIL was seen at feeders along Hunter Street in Nanaimo.
A RED CROSSBILL and a female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD were seen in a yard along Yellowpoint Road in Cedar.
Wednesday March 16:
A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was seen along the Cable Bay Trail in Cedar.
Three SAVANAH SPARROWS and 35 AMERICAN PIPITS were sighted at the Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo.
Tuesday March 15:
A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was spotted in the Beachcomber area of Nanoose Bay.
Five TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS were seen along the Englishman River in Parksville.
A PACIFIC-SLOPED FLYCATCHER was heard at Roberts Memorial Park in Cedar.
A BARRED OWL and 50 to 100 PINE SISKINS are in a yard in the 1900 block of Carmel Place in Nanaimo.
A SANDHILL CRANE is still being seen in a field near Lakes and Trunk Road in Duncan, the crane has been in this location for the last six months and is attracted to a scare crow (a plastic bag on a stick).
Monday March 14:
RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS were seen in the Garry oaks area of Nanoose Bay.
A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was sighted at feeders in the 1600 block of Fawcett Road in Cedar.
Eight AMERICAN PIPITS and a NORTHERN SHRIKE were seen at the Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo.
