Black Crested Bird with White under wings?? (1 Viewer)

Hello,
Hope to get some help here in id'ing a bird we just saw in our backyard. We live in San Diego, CA. This bird was completely black while feeding and showed white (or lightish grey) underfeathers as it flew off. It also had a short erect (black) crest on its head. It was medium to small in size (6" to 8") with a slender beak.

Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. We've seen the bird several times over the past couple and will try to get photo when possible.

Hi elvis and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t:

Not sure what you have there. Was it feeding on the ground or on a feeder? Anyway you could try and get a photo of it the next time you see it?
