Hi,

I'm interested in the Digiscoping Package that Opticron and SWOptics have put together.
http://www.swoptics.co.uk/list.asp?CAT=22
I'm looking for my 1st scope, that I want to use for digiscopy, and not have to upgrade any time soon.
I was already very interested in the ES80, with either the HDF zoom or the SDLv2 zoom.
Opticron have devised a kit for the ES80 with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS10.

Anyone have any experience, knowledge or advice with this combination.

Many thanks

Colin

Hi Colin,

I have had good results with the Opticron ES80ED and the Lumix FS7 which is very similar to the FS10. Worth buying the ED version rather than the SD if you can afford it, it is well worth it! I use the SDL eyepiece as it offers long eye relief for spectacle wearers and it is a great combination. I use the universal swing-out bracket from SRB Griturn (http://www.srb-griturn.com/digiscoping-swing-out-brackets-8-c.asp) rather than the Opticron adapters as it has several advantages though seems a bit fiddly at first. Persevere and it is a nicely made and excellent piece of kit. Once set up just swing it into position when you are on a bird and then swing it away. You can prezoom the camera to remove vignetting first so it is always ready. I usually have the eyepiece on 20-30x the zoom up to 3x on the camera for best results. I carry it around fully assembled in a Scopac.

Here is a recent shot of a Bullfinch

Anyone got a list of successful digiscoping settings for the FS10? Not having a lot of luck at the moment :-(

Cheers,

AndyM.

I have an Opticron es80ed v3 with the SDL eyepiece and the fs10 kit and i find it a great and easy piece of kit to use. The diameter of the SDL is 51mm and the glass is 27mm:t:

Tell me more Andy. This is a great digiscoping camera. No vignetting with almost any eyepiece. I use the Baader 17mm Hyperions most. I like to activate the first Macro setting, turn off the stabalization, set to ISO 100 or 200, The auto custom set white balance is great. Sharper than my LX3 and
many lenses available for the OLy EPL1. Use auto focus, but DO NOT touch the lens extension during use, this will either cause damage or prevent good focus. Get back to me.

I digiscope the moon through a 10 inch dob, birds through a 80ED, and right now I am taking a break from digiscoping snow flakes through a microscope lens. Gene
