Bushnell H20 8x42 (1 Viewer)

Hi Larry,

These come in both roof and Porro format, which one did you have in mind ?

I guess you've seen them at B&H :

roof : http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/321344-REG/Bushnell_150842_8x42_H2O_Binocular.html, $75.99

Porro : http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/replacement_for/321345-REG/Bushnell_150842C_8x42_H2O_Binocular_Clamshell.html, $64.95

Worth checking the returns policy.

In addition to the very low closeout prices Bushnell are offering a 25% mail in rebate on these.

Both discontinued models and at that price point fairly difficult to find something to compare against, although others may try :t:

Larry,

I've only tried the roof version a couple of times, and as very a cheap non-phase coated models go it's quite usable, but probably at it's best on a nice bright day.

One in-store comparison to several other Bushnell models was very revealing. Using a poorly lit product label as a target the incremental improvement through the range in 'brightness' and 'sharpness' was quite dramatic. I'd guess the light transmission and effective resolution were something around a factor of two worse than the Legend Ultra HD and more for the Elite.

The 8x42 Porro is quite useful for astronomy, maybe not for birdwatchers?
I have used it astronomically. No real complaints.

H20 Roof

I owned the 8x42 for a while. Bought it for $25 on clearance at a local store. I think they are alright for the price. Low light performance is not great but they'd work alright if its all I had on hand.

Ideally I'd get into that $100 range if possible. You'll get a good set of glasses at that price level.

Leupold Yosemite or Atlas Radian(Eagle Optics). I actually got my Yosemites for $80.
