Advice Please - East Kalimantan (1 Viewer)

Hello All,

I am a mad keen birder from Aussie and have visited a number of sites in SE Asia but have been saving the Indonesian and Malay Islands for a dedicated effort. I have the need to travel up to Balikpapan for work at the end of January and have arranged to stay the weekend and am looking for some advice. I will definitely be looking to travel to the Malay side of the island in the future, and work on the Sabah specialities, but while I am down in East Kalimantan I was hoping that I could get some advice about where to look for any species that are easier in the south than in the North.

If you had a full weekend and a bit of Monday...where would you recommend I go (and stay?) I am mostly interested in endemics/specialities to the Indonesian Archipelago. Mammals are also very high on my list and I would rather chance a wild Orange Man or Sun Bear than go to a sanctuary...unless the birding there was particularly good.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers,
