To cut back the bush at the rear of the garden which houses a sparrow and blackbirds nest. Its over hanging so much (this is a new house that had been neglected) that its overhanging by 20ft on to my neighbour who agreed that she would wait until after the breeding season.

I think although not sure that to cut it back may not be far enough to reach the nests but if it does i has to be done. Its a massive bush so by doing this it only looses about 20% of it.

Would August be about right?

I would think late August should be okay, but I'm not sure how late they may have the last brood. Certainly in my bit of Kent I'm still seeing Songthrushes, Blackbirds and Sparrows gathering nesting material - whether that's for repairs or for new nests I haven't investigated, but it suggests some nests will be occupied for several weeks yet!
