Mono pod head (1 Viewer)

I would suggest a tilt head. I find that heads with more than one axis of movement leave me wanting another hand when using a mono pod!

Cost no object then one of these:

A bit more reasonable:

I have read that there are other decent ones out there too.

Personally I use a Sirui L10 which I find pretty good for the money. Having said that do you really need a mono pod head? Most of the time I just attach my lens to the mono pod (via and Arca type clamp) and that does me fine - just a thought?

I did use a ball head but only had it tight when carrying when in use i had it running free,i now use one of those V rests and just lay the lens on it.

Even cheaper, under 30GBP but well constructed, is the Manfrotto 234RC single-axis tilt head which allows positioning in either landscape or portrait mode.

Why use a mono pod head ?, I find it easier to adopt a stable position with the mono pod angled away from my body making in effect, the third leg in the triangle.

I have a Sirui L10 which is OK but have not used it for a long time now - for the odd occasion I do use a monopod I prefer to screw directly to the Lens tripod foot. Having said that I find I can hand hold more stable than if I use a monopod.

Hello Crapbirder,

Does you method work when looking high in a tree? I find the tilt head necessary for looking at targets well above the horizon.

Happy bird watching,
Arthur Pinewood :hi:
