Thousands of young birds risk dying when they leave their nests from the cliffs above “Petrozavodsk”, the Russian vessel that ran aground by the coast of the Bear Island nearly two months ago. The ship is leaking diesel oil into the ocean under the nesting cliff. ..cont../

As the winter ice completes its retreat on the cliff tops, the amount of falling rocks has lessened, allowing pollution control measures to be taken.

Personnel from the Norwegian Coast Guard and the company Titan Salvage have been on board the freezer ship and are preparing to empty it for the remaining oil, Svalbardposten.no reports.

Let's hope they get that stuff off the ship as soon as.
