We set off from cleckheaton on sunday 31st march at 7am we drove the distance to uig on isle of skye arrived there at 4-30pm did some birding from the harbour got great views of hooded crows black guilemots and a black throated diver. a good start to our twitch we arrived at loch maddy at 8pm we drove and mapped out our route for the next mornings visit to try and see the harlequin. We rose at 5 and set driving to balranald we were in the field for 6-15am we picked up the harlequin duck at about 7am a great bird which we took in for an hour and a half before we went looking for the richardsons canada and snow geese which had been spotted no joy unfortunatley .

We decided to drive back to the ferry along the north road we took in some great birds we found a nice male merlin sat along the road side we kept on scanning the many flocks of barnacles which were plentyful. We came across a large flock of barnacles and our driver spotted another birder closer so we drove down a little dirt track. We got set up when the birder came walking towards us and he greeted us with have you seen the snowy owl which we all replied with where and he gladly pointed it out to us. We only had 15 minutes to get back to the ferry which we did and it was a great trip we saw a total of 52 species of birds which was good for about 5-6 hours birding and some great company

Glad you got to spend some time looking at the bird after spotting it. I've yet to see one and can't wait for my first, they are truly beautiful.
