Bird wave in Kashmir (1 Viewer)

CyberDoc

Vagrant Birder
My wife and I were walking on a road through the cedar/pine forests of Pahalgam in Kashmir when we encountered a "bird wave", unfortunately it must have been the only time on the entire trip I wasnt carrying my camera. The whole forest suddenly came alive with birds - there wasnt enough time to identify all the species - but there were lots of grey tits, willow-warblers, crested tits, himalayan tree-creepers, rock (meadow) buntings and most spectacularly a flock of scarlet minivets. The funny thing is there were a couple of Kashmir Pied woodpeckers too, although they may have been present before the wave. There were many more birds higher in the canopy and I was not able to identify them though I think I saw a flock of Himalayan goldfinches.

My wife is a birdwatching convert now, thanks to the minivets.

There is nothing more fantastic than a bird wave. I have very fond memories of the excitement and panic that sets in when a whole gang of various species descend upon you. Congratulations to all within the wave for making Mrs.Cyberdoc a birder!
