A bit late with a response but I use the GIMP and the Linux distribution it is installed on is Fedora 13. Have used the GIMP on all of the Fedora's and with Windows 98SE,XP and Vista.
There are several software packages available from the Fedora repos that handle camera raw files, I currently have Rawstudio, RawTherapee and UFRaw installed. With all of the mentioned raw image processors you can export the image to the GIMP.
