Haddiscoe Marshes Norfolk (1 Viewer)

Had a break from the coast today & walked the New Cut at Haddiscoe with my friend Colin. This is a good place for wintering Peregrine & it was not long before I found a cracking male perched on one of the pylons. It stayed there for sometime & we were able to get some excellent views. In the distance a Female Marsh Harrier was seen & by the end of the walk we had seen two more ,both females. The Island known as Chedgrave Marshes was heaving with duck & we estimated at least 1000 Wigeon & about the same number of Mallard. At the end of the road we stopped to look over the grazing marsh & were pleased to see a Little Egret. How nice to see one away from the traditional sites.

Up on the river bank we looked into the lagoons & saw a flock of ten mixed sex Bearded tits & by staying very still they approached us within six feet.

A great mornings walk concluded with a fine Kingfisher along the cut.

Off the A143 Great Yarmouth to Beccles Road at TM452992. Park under road bridge & walk north west along the concrete road. at the end (Two miles) go onto the rievr bank & look over the lagoons. Check the pylons for Raptors The "Island" is very good for a whole host of wildfowl & Wintering birds of prey.

It is better in Winter.
