I agree with you. but what monocular do you recommend? There are few in the market...
 
I have had one of these little guys for 2 years now and will not leave the house without it. FOV is amazing for such a small unit. It will not replace your bino's but as you asked, for something in the pocket it is great. You should be able to beat that $150 price by quite a bit too.
