Leupold Wind River Pinnacles (1 Viewer)

Can anyone tell me where these binoculars are currently being manufactured?

I've heard the early models were made in Japan and were quite good and the current models are being made in China and the quality is hit or miss.

Why do some certain models of these binoculars carry the word "Leupold" across their bridge and others carry "Wind River"? I was told at one point in time that the "Leupold" version was waterproof and the "Wind River" version was water resistant. Is there any truth to that? What is their JIS rating for waterproofness?

All input appreciated.

I can only speak of my experience with them at Cabelas(Wheeling), where the Pinnacles are of Japanese manufacture and nitrogen sealed . If you have further questions, I suggest you call Leupold , they seem friendly and have always answered anything I ask honestly and without hesitation. I have found contacting the manufacturer 'usually' gives me the best information.

Good luck, Garth
