This is, perhaps, my favorite winter resident. You can see where the yellow-rumped warbler gets its nick-name.

Thank you all. They are usually hard to catch if you are standing :) If you sit down they fly all around you.

Tony, my winters are fairly mild with a couple of weeks here and there where we get a hard freeze. Unfortunately the golden-winged does not come this far south although I would be a happy camper if it did.

Great photo! I have been seeing many yellow-rumped warblers around Charlotte--a flock of about 30 in the park next to our apartment complex just last week, right after it had snowed several inches. They have become a favorite of mine, and they seem to do just fine through the winter.

They are not around in the summer. The show up in autumn and leave in spring.
I have read that Yellow-rumped Warblers survive the winter by eating berries and seeds.

They flit around so fast, hard to id if you hadn't a clue. They feast on the wax myrtles at my place.

That yellow butt spot is undeniably bright yellow, can certainly see where they get their name. Good photo of that bright spot, KC.

On the pairie of Katy, Texas there were hundreds of them saturday. They were buzzing around and you could hear their chatter above all others.

Thank you all for your comments.

Hey Dan! You should see a remarkable amount of the yellow rumps over the next month. They will start heading out of here come the end of March and early April. *sigh* I sure will miss them but there will be others flying thru although not in this abundantcy.
