Two views of a Snow Petrel, taken on 21 Nov 2003, just off the West Ice Shelf of Antarctica.

Nikon D100 plus 80-400mm VR zoom lens.

Absolutely fabulous bird, Derek. We're very fortunate that you've been snapping away down there in Antractica, awesome birds that are a treat to see.
 
I agree, thanks for posting this great stuff. Keep in mind that the database can accommodate only photo of each species, though you can search the gallery for additional photos from a link in the database. The search does not search this forum. So you ought to post the shot not used in the database (the first one) to the gallery so that it will show up in searches. Definitely don't want rare shots like this to get lost in this forum. Glen
 
Glen, I mentioned the fact that the Db search won't include these extra shots, we may move them manually into the gallery so they get picked up.
 
If ever there was a bird made in Heaven this is it.
They have to fly a long way inland to search out ice free ground to lay their eggs.Saw a clip of some washing themselves in the snow,georgous little things.
