This beetle looks a lot like the white-spotted sawyer which occurs throughout North America. Except that we found it in a remote part of Kamchatka in Russia. So

a) is it something else,
b) have we found a major extension of its range, or
c) might it have been inadvertently introduced by American volcanologists using the hut which was right by where we found it?

I might add that it was a long way from any trees.
