How is your 2011 List Going?

Here's to another spectacular year ahead for ALL BF Members across the world.

Also thanks to all the Birdforum team for keeping us all in order!!!;)

Best Wishes Penny:girl:

I am looking forward to another year of counting the birds I see in the state of Missouri for My 2011 list. (Note: the Official Missouri Checklist of Birds is 405 species.)

Below are the totals I have had over the last nineteen years. I would be nice to list 300 for 2011,
but that probably will not happen as I do almost all of my birding locally in the area around our home town of Saint Joseph, Missouri.

1992 (141)
1993 (221)
1994 (222)
1995 (243)
1996 (242)
1997 (228)
1998 (231)
1999 (240)
2000 (250) * the year I retired
2001 (263)
2002 (289) * my highest count for Missouri Birds
2003 (273)
2004 (274)
2005 (273)
2006 (265)
2007 (267)
2008 (256)
2009 (266)
2010 (255)

Oh I love New Years Day :t: So exciting to start off a new Year List and also have a whole 365 days ahead of you with who knows what in the natural world ahead of you o:)

Unfortunately I drew the short straw this year as I had to work today - only 6am until 12.30 - and it started off well until three of those bone idle paperboys decided they couldn't be bothered to come in!!! It meant one lad had to do six rounds and by 9am the phone never stopped ringing with folk wanting to know where their papers were :smoke: By the time I finished I was so stressed out that I just grabbed two apples, my bins and notebook and jumped in the car to spend a few hours at the coast. Had a fabulous time and got frozen to death and battered by hailstones at one point but it was FANTASTIC!!!! :t: Who needs prozac when there's nature? :king:

But on with my list....

1: Feral Pigeon
2: Herring Gull
3: Jackdaw
4: Rook
5: Pied Wagtail
6: Long-tailed Tit
7: Wood Pigeon
8: Blackbird
9: Starling
10: Black-headed Gull
11: House Sparrow
12: Sanderling
13: Carrion Crow
14: Eider
15: Redshank
16: Oystercatcher
17: Brent Goose
18: Common Gull
19: Bar-tailed Godwit
20: Ringed Plover
21: Grey plover

23: Turnstone
24: Cormorant
25: Red-breasted Merganser
26: Great Black-backed Gull
27: Mallard
28: Red-necked Grebe

Nice selection there and as I'm on the same shift tomorrow and Monday I'll add a few more as I squeeze in a few hours here and there :t: Aiming to reach 100 by the end of January :king:

I had no idea how many birds I had seen until I got back to my parents and had a count up - I guessed around 70ish and to my surprise it was in fact a massive 87!!! Not too bad just for little ol' me!!!

Interesting that your totals have dropped a bit over the past 5 years, Larry. Do you think this represents changes in bird numbers, or have you been birding less?

Started with half-an-hour in the front yard:
1. American Goldfinch
2. White-winged Dove

17. Great Egret
18. Red-tailed Hawk
19. Turkey Vulture
20. European Starling
21. Rock Pigeon

Birding the Attwater area was disappointing - partly because it was windy - but added:
23. American Pipit
24. Sprague's Pipit
25. Wilson's Snipe
26. Greater Yellowlegs
27. Lesser Yellowlegs
28. Savannah Sparrow

So a quietish start and a long way to go to 300 species, which is my target for 2011.

Because of the harsh weather birds are scarce here this winter (only 72 species was seen in total in Uppland during the first day of the year, compared with 95 last year!) and add to that a stupid car that broke down and had to be towed away, my list is pretty short so far...
