After a little bit of rain over the weekend the mothing has started to pick up, here are a few of the highlights from the first couple of nights.
Synthereta janetta (Saturnid) have had three of these in the lat four days (two red and one yellow form)
Ophiusa hituense (Erebidae) both these were caught on the same night, not noticed one with differing right and left forewings before
Macrobathra near leucozancla (Cosmoptergidae)
Eustixis near panopsia (Lacturidae)
Autoba rubra (Erebidae)

Last night was the first night since June with more than one species of Hawkmoth coming to the light. Three species of Theretra appeared, one of which (T.margarita) was nominally new to me and the garden but on closer inspection I realised that I had mis-identified one from March this year.
Theretra margarita
Theretra oldenlandiae
Theretra latreilli

The last couple of days the weather has threatened but so far we have had nothing more than a couple of drops of rain, this has meant that the mothing has slowed down a bit but next week is forecast to be wet so who knows!
That said there has still be things of interest:
Chalciope alcyona (Catocalinae)
Heterostegane insulata (Ennominae) - two very different looking forms
Hypospila dochmotoma (Catocalinae)
Negata contrariata (Chloephorinae)
Netria viridescens (Notodontinae)

Well we finally got some rain - but with less than 25mm can hardly say the Wet has begun, the Damp possibly...The moths reacted instantly to the rain, the night prior to it in 6 hours two individuals and the night of the rain 35+ species so hardly jumping but still a vast improvement. We have had nothing since although as I type this midday on Sunday 15th we are forecast to get some over the next few days so we shall just have to wait and see.
Here are a few from the last week
Anthela varia - this is about the only Anthela spp I seem to catch
Balantiucha stolida - Uraniidae
Comostola leucomerata - Geometrinae
Earias vitella - Chloephorinae
Helicoverpa assulta - Heliothinae; am not confident about the species for this on as they all seem very varied but this certainly is close to assulta on BOLD

Sorry for lack of posts so thought I should catch up with the rest of November. It was dry for most of the month (in fact close to 90% of Queensland is now officially declared a drought zone), as a result of this lack of rain the mothing has been slow. I have had a few goodies and so have broken them down to four posts...
Comostola iodioides - Geometrinae
Coostola spp - Geometrinae. This is a currently un-described species. I have caught this several times this year and a mothing friend of mine has three in his collection from south Queensland. It is similar to Comostola pyrrhogona in shape but the dots on the wings are not shown by this species.
Dysphania numana - Geometrinae.
Protulioncnemis biplagiata - Geometrinae - this and P.partita are two of my favourite Geometrinae.
Earias flavida - Chloephorinae

Part two.....
Dysallacta megalopa - Pyraustinae
Glyphodes microta - Spilomelinae, my 13th species of Glyphodes for the garden
Hyalobathra aequalis - Pyraustinae
Ocrasa spp - Pyralinae, I am not certain with this one and have not been able to get a definative ID
Parapoynx diminutalis - Acentropinae, again not 100% certain re this one but it looks very good for most of the P.diminutalis photos I have seen.

Part 3....

Hyles livornicoides - Sphingidae, my first of the season of this usually very common hawkmoth, have had well over 40 at the trap in the past
Theretra celata - Sphingidae, a new species for me my 27th in the garden this year
Spirama obscura - Catocalinae, there seems to be some variation in what this is called as I have seen it called Spirama and Speiredonia obscura, either way a great moth
Stictoptera cucullioides (4 & 5) - Stictopterinae

Part 4....the last three moths for the month and a couple of my regular non moth visitors....
Acontia crocata - Acontiinae, when I first saw a member of this family I struggled to ID it as spent the whole time thinking it was an odd and rather large Tort!
Heterallactis monochrysa - Lithosiinae
Trigonorda sp ANIC2 - Odontiinae, one of the mny known "unknowns" that we get here. yet to be formally described as far as I am aware but listed on BOLD as spANIC2
Striped Possum - after an absence of a couple of months it has re-appeared
White-lipped Tree Frog - probably my favourite of the frogs I see regularly, very friendly and has been known to jump on my shoulder and stay there whilst I check the light!
