Robins defending peanuts (1 Viewer)

Alastair Rae

London birder
In recent years, (Eurasian) Robins (in some areas?) have started visiting peanut feeders. This winter I've seen two instances (one in Belfast, one in western Scotland) of a Robin agressively defending a feeder. They chase off Blue or Coal Tits that attempt to feed. The Robins would sit on the ground and fly up at any small bird attempting to land on the feeder.

Is this now a wide spread phenomenon?

Alastair you can post that here.. I have Amer. Robins and I will tell you I have not seen them at the peanut feeders but that may be due largely in fact to their food source (berries ) being more then just a tad pleantiful here.
