Peanuts... (1 Viewer)

We all know the RSPB recommend that you dont feed whole peanuts to birds during April to September (I think my dates are correct). 2 days ago I bought a 20kg bag of 'Firebird Special Wild Bird Seed' and found whole peanuts in the mix. I am not sure if this is a bag left over or new but I thought I would let you all know just incase you have a bag or buy a bag to check - thanks.

I think they say you should not use whole peanuts during the breeding season, which I thought was over now - but maybe you should reserve this bag until later in the year (or pick out all the peanuts as you use the mixture)!

Hi Elizabeth, I have just checked on the RSPB site and the page I saw said 'Spring and Summer months'. I think the problem of whole peanuts not only applies to recently hatched young, but to fledglings as well, which is why the summer months are included.

I am personally not using this bag at the moment but I wanted to warn others of the potentiaal danger.
