Used my 550D yesterday, and had probs trying to edit the images, every time I tried to "save as copy",I was just told that the image was already in the file, and whenI did try to save,it ended up in a Bitmap format,Fortunately ,when saving for the web(using elements 4)everything was okay,so was able to use the pics-but a much worse problem today.Went to use the same card as yesterday, pic shad not been deleted, and the message came up saying that "Card Protection" was in use.Yes,the little slider on the card was at the top position.Every card I tried,i just received the same result,so I cannot use the camera.I have read the manual, and it said format the card, but unable to do that-card protection. It said ,press set for card protection, then press set again to unlock-there is a small key sign at the top left of the screen.I have no idea as to what to donext-any suggestions please.I was going to try on the Canon users forum, but would have had to have logged in as a member etc,and usually someone on BF does have the answer.
so,Please can some one advise,or point me in the right direction. Many thanks Christine |

I may add, there is nothing wrong with the camera,I bought it from a BF member in pristine condition,a great little cam, nice and light.although there is perhaps a prob with the cam, which is why the cards are not working,I have just downloaded some shots from my 40D,no probs with the editing prog whatsoever.

I've never had this problem, but the following thread:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/canonds...7619836208433/ Advises this: "i know this might sound ridiculous, but try jiggling the card back and forth as you insert it. try pushing the card to the side of the write-protect switch as you insert it. if the camera sees a notch, it won't write to the card - thats what the switch is supposed to do - it blocks the camera from seeing the notch, allowing write access." and several replies say it works. |

Thanks WB will give it a try,but the fact that all the cards I inserted gave the same prob. Will go to the link.
Just tried it,and yes, worked on the card which was inserted, will now try with the others.WB,thankyou sooo much. Yes ,the other cards now all okay, now just need to check why I had the probs with editing,I spent all morning reading reviews re Elements 8-10,thinking I had software probs?. Yes,everything back to normal, perhaps the card was corrupted slightly, which is why I had probs editing, but now everything is fine, thanks again,WB,very grateful. If you lived locally ,I would buy you a pint and a Sunday lunch at our local pub.

Good to know it's working.
If you tried several cards and they were all the same, then it's nothing to do with the cards. Apparently, sometimes this switch http://www.getflashmemory.info/hack-...ite-protected/ inside the camera gets stuck in the card protection position. |
