listening equipment (1 Viewer)

I would like to set up a microphone in my backyard to listen to birds and other wildlife as I read and drink coffee. At this point in time I am not really interestd in recording or saving the sounds. What kind of a microphone speaker setup would work best for this purpose. And where can I purchase an appropriate outdoor micraphone and any other equipment that is needed? Any help or comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich

Hi Rich,

Must be a US thing, I've never heard of doing that in England - the noise of aircraft would drive you nuts :) I envy you your quiet environment

Nature's window seems to be well thought of

You could alternatively use a simple microphone amp and a cheap mic into the line-in of your hifi or your PC. Keeping the rain off the mic is the trick. I had one rigged outside for about three years along these lines into a PC sound card line in, before the mic succumbed to the general dampness and getting pecked - it was over the feeders. That way was cheaper for me and offered a record capacity, but the nature's window is easier and designed for that job...
