Went winter hiking and birding with a group of friends today, trying out a new camera.
We saw mallard and black ducks, which sadly no longer migrate due to increasingly mild winters and people who feed them. A lot of juvie black ringed gulls, and pigeons (rock doves).
There are black capped chickadees here, and red-breasted nuthatches, who will land on your hand to take seed, so we got to feed them. I like to think we're helping them out, since "real" winter just set in. We saw a lone white-breasted nuthatch, something I haven't seen since my childhood, and I saw a lifer: a golden crowned kinglet.
I have photos, but I can't figure out how to link them from Flickr? Or can we not do that?
