Pentax PF80ED 20-60 zoom adaptor? (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I've searched the forum threads and did some internet searching...

but I don't seem to find an adaptor for the Pentax 20-60 eyepiece to
connect to a coolpix 4500.

I know there's a digimount type L1 for the Pentax XL28 eyepiece.

I'm still scope shopping and this ones sounds pretty nice.

The 20x60 zoom is included in the price of the scope; however the XL28
or 18.5x optional eyepiece may serve better for digiscoping.

It might be better to purchase the scope without eyepiece ($650)
and buy the optional XL28 ($265) and get a digimount adaptor

I understand that the 20-60 zoom is "huge"... but I don't know the exact
size. How would the difference between the 28mm camera lens to the
"huge" eyepiece affect vignetting, etc.?

There's got to be some kind of digi-adaptor for the coolpix..?

Any suggestions on eyepiece or adaptor?

thanks,
Linda

Hello there. I've been building some adaptors lately for Pentax eye pieces. I have one that I built for the 20-60 zoom, it is made from delrin and I machined it on a metal lathe. I would be willing to sell it, if you are interested send me an e-mail at [email protected]
Thanks,
Dan

Hi,
I certainly don't want to discourage you from taking advantage of Freddy's offer. I want to add, however, that you have a couple of other options. First, there is a very good (somewhat expensive) adapter made by K.S. Cheang. He's almost "famous" in the digiscoping world for his adapter systems. You can inquire to him directly at [email protected]. Ordering from him is a little complicated (direct bank-to-bank transfer of funds), but his adapter system is very, very good, and he makes one for the PF80-ED with the 20-60x eyepiece.

Your other alternative is to get whatever eyepiece you wish for the scope and then get a separate eyepiece for digiscoping. The William Optics DCL-28 24mm. eyepiece is about $80 and is excellent for this purpose. I have used it and also the Pentax XL28 and frankly, I don't see any real difference in the finished photos. The WO eyepiece is threaded to attach directly to your Coolpix front lens threads (28mm.)

So now you have several choices!

Hi,

Thanks for all the good tips and advice!

I'm still looking at the scope and haven't made my mind up yet.

I thought I'd check all the eyepiece and adapter options first to be
sure there was an apapter out there.

I read somewhere (I think it was a review of the Pentax scope)...
that many times people choose the scope by the size of the objective
lens first, and then take whatever eyepiece that goes with it... The
article went on to say that the eyepiece for the Pentax was superb and
used in conjuction with the scope it was an excellent match.

The best thing about this forum is that you get to read various opinions
from the people that are actully using the equipment!
(vs. manufactures' advertisements!)
